5TH ANNUAL PBCA/SABCC JOINT PICNIC

Sixty members of the Panhandle British Car Assoc. and the South Alabama British Car Club gathered in Lillian, AL, July 22, for the 5th Annual Joint Picnic at the Schmitz's home. The weather was its usual hot, hot and though predictions of rain in the afternoon did not materialize, it did keep a few from driving their LBCs. Still fifteen, plus Tom's nine, made for a good display of 24 fine examples of British iron. As usual Jaguars predominated with nine in attendance; Gus and Ann Fell's and Joe and Pat Hajcak' XJ6s, Richard and Donna Cunningham's, Vince and Elaine Coll's and Chuck and Charlene Byrne's XJSs, plus Tom's 420 Saloon, E-type, XJS and XK8. Craig Hurt's Rolls Royce and Jon Gosnell's Cobra at the head of the driveway certainly got the attention of the neighbors, several of who stopped by to comment and ask questions. Scott and Brenda Putriment drove their newly acquired (from Bill Snyder) MGB GT as did Ron and Sylvia Newman in their recently purchased TR8. Bill and Monnie Moseley don't let rain or threats of rain deter them from driving his newly restored Healey 3000. Keith and Nelda Sanders parked their green MGC and immediately had to change a flat.

Dave Burrows and Jack Ross, and Ron Newman took on the hot job of manning the grills and turned out plenty of fine tasting hamburgers and hot dogs. There was a wide variety snacks, side dishes and desserts to satisfy everyone's appetites. With a bit of breeze on the bay, there were a good number of folks using the pier and pedal boat. Most of the kids as well as a few adults kept the pool busy in their attempts to beat the heat.

SEVILLE SQUARE AACA SHOW

The Seville Square Car Show by the Pensacola AACA will be September 22. Registration starts at 8:30 am. Regular classes for cars 25 years old. There is a special class for cars under 25 years old. The British car presence has been increasing each year and there were approximately 20 last year. This is a very good show in an excellent location on Pensacola Bay with plenty of shade, good restaurants nearby and wide variety of cars to see. The British cars get a lot of attention as most people are familiar with the Model As, Mustangs, and other American collectibles and enjoy seeing and discussing cars with which they may not be as familiar. It is a judged show and there is a British class. Cars are scored on their own on a point system, not against one another. Last year PBCA received at least 8 First Place Awards. This is the PBCA September Event and is centrally located to PBCA members, so come out, even if you can't bring your car, and enjoy the get together with other car enthusiasts.

The following Saturday, September 29, has been announced as the Montgomery, AL, British Car Show. We have not, as yet, received details on this but will have information out to you when we receive it. Details will also be on the PBCA website.

OCTOBER TO BE BUSY WITH 2 MAJOR SHOWS AND A CLUB EVENT

(File away the info below as you will not receive the October British Marque before these two events.)

Mark your calendar now for Saturday, October 6th, for the 11th Annual South Alabama British Car Show at the Fairhope Pier in Fairhope, Alabama. PBCA always has a large turnout for this show as does SABCC for our Pensacola Beach Show. We will have a caravan from Pensacola to Fairhope on Saturday morning. We will meet at Keith Sanders office on Copter Road at 8:00 am and at the Pensacola Fairgrounds parking lot at 8:30 am, then take Highway 90 west to the eastern shore. Details will be sent out and will be covered at the regular meetings. This is one of the traditional show events of PBCA and is located at an ideal setting in the shady park on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay.

The second show in October to seriously consider is the Brits on the Bluffs British Car Show in Natchez, Mississippi, Saturday, October 13. The host hotel is the Ramada Inn in Natchez. Call 800 256-6211 for reservations at $65.00 per night. There will be Welcome Reception Friday evening at the Ramada. Registration and Parade line up will from 9 to 11 am Saturday at the Natchez Visitors Center followed by a police escorted parade through downtown Natchez to the show site at the antebellum mansion "Rosalie" circa 1820. It is approximately a 6 hour trip from Pensacola to Natchez and we will have a group going over together Friday. It is good road all the way and we take it slow and easy. If you are looking for a great weekend getaway along with a very nice car show, this is the weekend to plan for. There is a lot to do in Natchez, antebellum mansion tours, antique shopping and good restaurants as well as a great British Car show put on by Terry and Meredith Trovato and their very competent British Motoring Club. Registration is $25.00 and well worth it!! Make your plans and reservations early to take advantage of the special hotel rate. Call Tom at 334 961-7171 for further details.

OCTOBER PBCA EVENT

The regular October PBCA Event will be a Progressive Feast coordinated by Sylvia and Ron Newman on Sunday October 21. Mark that day down on your calendars and further details will be in the October British Marque and at the regular monthly meetings. The weather should have cooled by then and be perfect for a bit of driving and a lot of eating which seems to be the major passion of most PBCAers.
